Top Ten Tuesday and Teaser Tuesday - The Prestige

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish - every week, a new top 10 list is posted, and as with Follow My Book Blog Friday, it seems an excellent way to both find new blogs and get to know your fellow bloggers a little better. This week's list is:

Top 10 Books I Want To Re-read

And here's mine...

01. Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
02. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
03. Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson
04. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
05. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
06. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
07. Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
08. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (I still haven't read the rest of the series)
09. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
10. Watership Down by Richard Adams

What's your top ten? Mine's not really in any particular order.

Teaser Tuesdays is another weekly meme, this one hosted by Should Be Reading. What you do is just get whatever book you're currently reading, turn to a random page, and post a teaser sentence from that page (careful not to use any spoilers, though!). Be sure to say what the title and author of the book are, so anyone who might be interested can find it!

From The Prestige by Christopher Priest:

"In semi-darkness, half inverted in the chair, tied hand and foot, and entirely submerged in cold water, I began to drown-"

  2. Wow, great teaser but a horrible scenario for the person. ._. I'm definitely intrigued though! I wonder how s/he ended up there...

My teaser is from a book I absolutely loved; Divergent! Click to be teased!

  4. Haha - that certainly is a great teaser. And certainly puts us in a rather chilling context. :P

Interesting picks for reread - I'd have to say pretty much anything by Guy Gavriel Kay, who writes incredibly poignant historical fantasy. Still haven't read 'Brave New World' yet, though - and I really should!

  5. Hatchet! That was one of my favorite books as a kid.

  6. I had absolutely no idea that The Prestige was based off a book. I thought the movie was amazing, but I would be a bit wary about reading the book though. I tend to always choose one of the other when it comes to books made into movies.

  7. Number the Stars is a great choice! I really want to reread it now as well. And I fall on the Crime and Punishment side of Dostoyevsky's work - maybe it's just me, but everyone seems to like one or the other. Rarely both.

But my insane theories aside, hi! I'm a new follower of yours. My Top Ten list is over here if you'd like to stop by.

  8. Watership Down is one of my all time favorite books. I would love to re-read it too.
Regarding your comment on my blog - I love names too. I would never use the name Mandarin, but I do think it's beautiful. On another note, I knew a girl in high school named Daiquiri. She was an unusual girl, but very nice to me.

  9. You have some good childhood classics here that I didn't think of. I would love to reread Hatchet or Number the Stars. I think they are both on my shelves somewhere...

Come visit my list at The Scarlet Letter.

  10. Another great book by Ellen Emerson White is The Road Home about a nurse during Vietnam! I love her so much as an author - I'm always trying to pimp her works. And I adore that you reviewed her Voyage on the Great Titanic! :D I hope you enjoy her work!
