In My Mailbox #2

Another week has gone by, and that means it is time for another round of In My Mailbox, a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. It's kind of a show-and-tell of anything bookish you've bought/borrowed/won/received for review over the past week.

This is my second post for In My Mailbox, and I've seen that many bloggers have made their own buttons for the meme, and I decided to do the same. I found the photo on Google Images, from a website called NV Fingerprinting. I just added the text on top and cropped the photo a bit to make it a shorter height.

Anyway! On to the books. :)

The first thing I received in the mail this past week was another RAK gift! Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. A big thanks to Tena over at The Crazy Book Slut! Random Acts of Kindness is a fantastic event hosted by Book Soulmates - go check it out, if you haven't already! This is the second item I've received so far from my wishlist, and I've sent out a couple things this month so far as well. It's a lot of fun! I was so excited when I opened this and saw that Tena had tied a little string around the book, like an old-fashioned brown-paper package. It was really cute! I wish I'd thought to take a photo. As you can see from my sidebar, I'm currently reading Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, and so far it's pretty interesting, so I can't wait to read this one!

I also got a package of some books I'd ordered on sale from Amazon. They split my order into two shipments, so I'm still waiting for a couple of books, but the ones I got this week were:

* Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline Carey (Book 2 of the Phedre Trilogy, a part of the Kushiel's Legacy series)
* Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey (Book 1 of The Drake Chronicles)
* The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
* The Daughters by Joanna Philbin (Book 1 of The Daughters series)
* Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink (Book 1 of the Prophecy of the Sisters series)

I also went to the large Half Price Books in Dallas earlier this week and went just a tiny bit crazy. I did limit myself to only filling up just one handheld basket, though! A lot of them are older books, but there are some newish ones as well - most of these I got lucky and found marked from $1-3! They're all in great condition, too; I'm sort of particular about the condition a book is in if I'm going to buy it used. Here's what I snatched up:

* Warrior by Zoe Archer (Book 1 of The Blades of the Rose series)
* Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
* North by Northanger (Or, The Shades of Pemberley) by Carrie Bebris (Book 3 of The Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mysteries)
* The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares (Book 1 of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series)
* The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown (Book 2 of the Robert Langdon novels)
* Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Book 1 of the Tarzan novels)
* Soulless by Gail Carriger (Book 1 of The Parasol Protectorate series)
* Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
* The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver (Book 1 of the Lincoln Rhyme novels)
* The Drowning City by Amanda Downum (Book 1 of The Necromancer Chronicles)
* The Luxe by Anna Godbersen (Book 1 of The Luxe series)
* The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
* The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and other stories in The Sketch Book by Washington Irving
* Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
* New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (Book 2 of the Twilight saga)
* Halloween: Pagan Festival to Trick or Treat by Mark Oxbrow
* The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
* Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks
* Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan

That's quite a lot! I could have bought more, though - I have next to no restraint when it comes to buying books. If there are books for sale, and I've got some money, you can consider the floodgates opened.

Some of these I've read before, but had to part with when I needed to sell most of my personal library a while back...I've only recently started to rebuild. Most of these, though, will be new reads for me. Have you read any of them? If you've done a review for any of these, feel free to leave links in the comments!

So what's in your mailbox?

  3. I am so glad you have received a RAK - yay! I do not have such a good track record with it :)

I recently starting listening to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on audio - only a few chapters in but it is unusual. I like it.

  4. Oh HPB are a bad, bad place to go, especially when they have warehouse sales - do they do those down by you? Or is that something we only get up in Seattle?

  9. Oh my gosh, SO MANY GOOD BOOKS! P&P&Z sounds like the perfect Halloween read. And I love the Kushiel books to an embarrassing extent. She does such a good job with her worldbuilding in that series.

Also I've probably mentioned it before, but I adore your blog design so much.
